Did you know that about the Polish language?
Polish is spoken by over 50 million people worldwide.
Poles love every form of diminutive & practically in every sentence they find words that can be made sound cuter. So they don’t drink coffee with milk “kawa z mlekiem” but “kawka z mleczkiem” – small coffee with small milk & no tea with lemon “herbata z cytryną” but “herbatka z cytrynką”- small tea with small lemon.
Poles have a weakness for the so-called “hissing sounds“, which often (unnecessarily!) rob Polish learners of their sleep.
Like most of the alphabets of European languages, the Polish alphabet originates from Latin. However, Poles did not consider the alphabet to be sufficient and added 9 additional letters: ą, ć, ę, ł, ń ó, ś, ż, ź. In total, the Polish alphabet consists of 32 letters.
Polish tongue twisters cause problems even for native Poles. But practice makes perfect.
